Squiz Matrix Newsletter #402

We're on the home stretch, folks! November has sprung this week, which means a nice new set of Squiz Matrix releases. Versions 4.10.4 and 4.12.0 of Squiz Matrix will be released this coming Monday, November 5th.

Squiz Matrix 4.12.0 is the debut release of our 4.12.x branch, after last month's release candidate. Features introduced in this version include context syncronisation on the JavaScript API, an upgrade to the Google Maps package to version 3 of Google's Map API, and password check enhancements on system scripts.

The latest Squiz Matrix Automatic Upgrade scripts will also be available on the Squiz Matrix site.

Check out the Squiz Labs blog on Monday for all the latest on these new releases, including download links, release notes and more!

This week we have two new enhancements to report, including a new SSL verification option on the Remote Content asset. Continue reading below for more information on all this week's features.

New SSL Verification Option on the Remote Content Asset

Due for release in version 4.12.1 (December 3rd 2012)

Squiz Matrix's Remote Content asset allows you to embed the contents of an external web site within the design of your own site. Previously, by default, this asset would attempt to verify the SSL certificate of the site that is being embedded. If a certificate failed verification, the remote content asset would fail to return any data and instead display a warning message.

This minor enhancement adds a new option to the Remote Content asset, allowing you to specify whether or not to verify the SSL certificate of embedded content.

The Verify SSL field can be set on the Details screen of the Remote Content asset.

The Verify SSL field

By default, this field is enabled, meaning that the Remote Content asset will attempt to verify the SSL certificate of embedded content. If this field is disabled, this process will be bypassed.

This function is useful for users wanting to embed content from web pages that do not have a valid SSL certificate, but are otherwise known to be secure.

Multiple NOTICE Linked Child Images Now Permitted on Assets

Due for release in version 4.12.1 (December 3rd 2012)

Previously, assets within Squiz Matrix were only able to have one linked child Image asset with the NOTICE link type. If users attempted to link more than NOTICE linked Image child asset, an error would be displayed.

This minor enhancement removes this restriction, enabling the creation of multiple NOTICE linked child Images on each asset within the system. This enhancement has been added to aid specific implementations where multiple NOTICE linked Image child assets were desired.
